Greater Toronto Hockey League eager for Play On!'s return to Canadian Communities

February 28th, 2024

The Honourable Carla Qualtrough, P.C., M.P.

Minister of Sport and Physical Activity

Dear Minister Qualtrough:

We are writing to convey our support of the Play On! Canada organization, its stated mission to preserve street hockey as part of Canadian heritage and culture, and its goal of bringing the summer of 2024 alive with a nationwide street hockey tour.

Play On! Canada has hosted events in Canada since 2004, and in collaboration with our hockey organizations has created an amazing experience for kids and adults.

Recently, we met with Play On! Canada’s Executive Team to review its plan to expand the program when it relaunches this spring and we are excited to see it run in communities once again, allowing neighbourhoods to reconnect, inspire physical activity amongst youth and help more Canadians fall in love with hockey. The GTHL will be directly involved by recruiting game officials to ensure the event has a professional approach and ensure it’s a fun and safe game. The team at Play On! Has created large and diverse leadership teams to plan each unique event in every city they are visiting.

We hope you will join us in celebrating the return of such an important program that benefits Canadians, communities and the game of hockey.

Sincerely,

Scott Oakman
Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer
